ODESSA, Texas — Officers at the Odessa Police Department are periodically designating “safe zones” throughout the city in an effort to maximize safety among motorists and the public.

According to the department, safe zones are areas in which traffic enforcement is increased to gain compliance with traffic laws. Police officers work the areas singly or in groups, paying especially close attention for red light, stop sign, speeding and other moving violations.

Officers concentrate on crosswalks, school zones and school buses while students are loading and unloading.

Safe zones are announced the week prior to enforcement action being taken.

Three safe zones were scheduled to be put in place this week throughout the city.
