ATLANTIC, Iowa — The Atlantic Schools in cooperation with the Cass County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Association will hold an overturned school bus simulation at the Atlantic Schools transportation facility on July 11. School transportation personnel from across the state are invited to attend.

The day’s activities will include a one-hour class covering what to do in the event of a bus accident. EMS, Cass County fire and 911 dispatch personnel will lead the session and discuss hypothetical situations.

Attendees will then go to the drill site to practice an evacuation on a smoke-filled bus. Fire and EMS personnel will lead the drill scenario with school bus drivers acting as accident victims and evacuators. Upon completion of the drill, attendees will return to the Atlantic fire station for questions and a meal provided by Cass County EMS.
