WARRENVILLE, Ill. — Students are again being urged to be cool — and safe — as they ride the bus to and from school.

Now it’s “Be Cool. Bus Rules!” The updated version of the safety program was released this past fall for the 2005-06 school year and has had a great response so far, according to Karl Knecht, bus marketing manager for IC Corporation.

The safety program targets students, drivers, parents and school officials with the following informational tools:

Driver’s guide — This 10-page guide provides drivers with the latest safe driving practices from industry experts. It includes, among other things, advice on pre-trip inspections, behind-the-wheel fundamentals, safe loading and unloading practices, emergency procedures and rail crossing safety.

Bus ID tag — This name tag includes the 10 “Be Cool. Bus Rules!” safety rules on one side and a place for the child’s name and bus number on the other side.

Post card — This mailable card provides parents with safety tips and includes room for a customized message.

Coloring page — This one-page cartoon includes a safety message and can be copied and distributed to students.

Magnetic card — This magnet includes the 10 “Be Cool. Bus Rules!” safety rules and can be placed on a refrigerator or on a student’s locker.

Knecht said the simplest way to obtain the safety campaign material is to visit the IC Corporation Website. The link to “Be Cool. Bus Rules!” is www.BeCoolBusRules.com.
