DOVER, Del. — Last week, the Legislature's Joint Finance Committee restored funding to public school transportation instead of cutting 25 percent and leaving schools to fill the gap, according to a story by The News Journal.

The committee also decided to continue providing funds to parents of private school students for transportation, although providing a slightly smaller stipend compared to previous years.

The committee reversed its decision after talks with school chiefs, legislators and the governor. In order to pay for school transportation without making the cuts, the committee decided to reduce the number of new buses to be purchased and the number of routes to be added for the next school year.
