MAYNARDVILLE, Tenn. — Faced with a budget shortfall of about $200,000 as the school year is nearing an end, Union County Public Schools may reduce its bus service by eight days, according to a story on wbir.com.
Last fall, the school district passed a $22 million spending plan to help close a shortfall of nearly $750,000 and took several steps to cut the deficit, one of which was the plan for shortened bus service.
The district’s board of education is scheduled to meet on May 3 to review options for addressing the financial situation. If no action is taken, the buses will reportedly not run for the final days of school.
