DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Hundreds of school buses are to be given to government schools at the beginning of the next academic year at a cost of 65.5 million AED (about $17.8 million USD).

Emirates Transport will add the 230 buses to schools’ fleets to meet growing demand, in a move that was announced by the minister of education and chairman of Emirates Transport, Humaid Al Qatami.

During the board meeting in which the announcement was made, Emirates Transport was praised for its performance last year.

The board also celebrated the achievements of the Emirates Transport Award for Safety and Traffic Education in increasing participation from schools, parents and students. Al Qatami praised the continuous efforts of the Emirates Transport work teams who helped raise the profile of the awards over the past 15 years.
