PRESCOTT, Ariz. — Prescott Unified School District’s (USD) transportation department is honoring 19 firefighters who lost their lives while battling a blaze with a series of special license plates on its school buses, The Daily Courier reports.

Prescott USD Transportation Director Norma Frye worked with several agencies on the project and received approval from the state’s Department of Public Safety on the plates. The license plates carry the names of 19 Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew members who died in June. The group was assisting in the response to a wildfire near Yarnell, Ariz.

"The transportation department of the Prescott Unified School District felt they needed to be able to help the families of the fallen men by helping the community at large to never forget them,” Frye told The Daily Courier. “These men were valiant husbands, fathers, brothers, uncles, nephews, fiancés, sons and members of the community.”

Like the idea. Did any district honor Charles Poland, Joyce Gregory, and our own other fallen heroes with bus license plates?

What a wonderful tribute to the "HOTSHOTS" and a way to immortalize their lives. As first responders, whether fire fighters, police officers, or the military we owe these folks our lives. They protect and defend us at all cost and put their lives on hold for the rest of us. Whatever we can do to show our appreciation even posthumous, tells the families left behind they made/make a difference and we care. Norma and her staff through this expression of love will afford all those who see the plates a reminder of others who cared enough to do their very best. Nice job Norma and Prescott Transportation.
