James Rogan named chair of N.Y. driver training committee
The School Bus Driver Instructor Advisory Committee makes recommendations on safety training for drivers, monitors and attendants across New York state. Rogan, director of safety and training at Chestnut Ridge Transportation, says that the group reviews and develops “curriculums aimed at maintaining the highest safety standards.”

CHESTNUT RIDGE, N.Y. — James Rogan of Chestnut Ridge Transportation has been appointed chairman of the state School Bus Driver Instructor (SBDI) Advisory Committee.
The New York State Education Department’s SBDI Advisory Committee is a body of pupil transportation safety instructors who meet regularly to advise the department on safety-training curriculums for school bus drivers, monitors and attendants across New York state.
Rogan is director of safety and training at Chestnut Ridge Transportation. He has been active on the SBDI Advisory Committee since 2009.
“I am honored to serve as chairman of the SBDI Advisory Committee and look forward to sharing my expertise with fellow committee members as we review and develop curriculums aimed at maintaining the highest safety standards,” Rogan said. “The work we do impacts school transportation professionals throughout New York state whose job it is to ensure the safety of the children they transport each day.”
About 2.3 million children in the state ride school buses daily.
“I can think of no other job that carries such profound responsibility as safe pupil transportation,” Rogan added.
Prior to his appointment as SBDI Advisory Committee chairman, Rogan served on the following subcommittees: Curriculum Review (chairperson); RFP Advanced Course Review; RFP Basic Course Review; and PDS Curriculum Review. His committee accomplishments include the adoption of new pre-service curriculum and new SBDI curriculum.
Chestnut Ridge Transportation, a member of The Trans Group family of companies, provides school transportation for the Ramapo, Pearl River and East Ramapo school districts in Rockland County, N.Y., transporting more than 17,000 students daily.
