OKLAHOMA CITY — Some Oklahoma City Public Schools students will get free rides on Metro transit buses for the upcoming school year under a new system that was recently approved, NewsOK reports.
High schoolers enrolled in the district’s academies will be able to use the transit buses for no charge, including for non-school related activities, according to Rick Cain, director of the Central Oklahoma Transportation and Parking Authority. The authority’s board approved the transportation arrangement.
Metro transit and school buses will also work in concert to transport students to their academies. Cain told NewsOK that the district is working to develop a photo ID to document students, and the Central Oklahoma Transportation and Parking Authority is working on a pass program to track the students who ride the Metro buses.
