Woman charged in assault on bus driver
A 40-year-old woman allegedly threatens another woman, a Kuna (Idaho) School District bus driver, with a loaded gun and sprays her with pepper spray in the district parking lot. Two transportation employees reportedly step in to take the gun and separate the two women, who are said to be friends.
KUNA, Idaho — A woman was arrested and charged for allegedly threatening another woman with a gun and spraying her with pepper spray in a school district parking lot.
Police said that Sherry Borgeman, 40, drove into the Kuna School District parking lot on Thursday morning and pulled in behind a minivan driven by an unnamed woman, 39, who is a school bus driver for the district.
“Armed with a semi-automatic handgun, Borgeman approached the driver’s side of the minivan and used a window punch to break the glass,” according to a report from the Ada County Sheriff’s Office.
The 40-year-old reportedly then put her arm through the broken window and pointed the loaded gun at the driver’s face, threatening her. Borgeman allegedly then pulled pepper spray from her pocket and sprayed the victim, who was still inside the vehicle.
Police said that initial reports indicated that a shot was fired from the handgun, but “further investigation revealed the loud sound heard by witnesses was likely the device Borgeman used to break the glass. It appears no rounds were fired from the weapon.”
As the 39-year-old victim exited the minivan, there was a brief physical struggle between her and Borgeman, police said.
Witnesses reported that two men who were in the parking lot at the time of the incident stepped in to help. One of the men took the gun from the suspect’s hand, while the other separated the two women. Borgeman then fled the area in a vehicle, police said.
Kuna Melba News reported that the men who intervened are Kuna School District transportation employees, and the district described them as “incredibly brave employees, who were instrumental in responding quickly so that no one else was harmed.”
As a precaution, the victim was transported to a hospital to be evaluated by doctors. She was released a short time later.
Based on information gathered from witnesses and the victim, police tracked Borgeman to her home in nearby Meridian. After about an hour of conversation over the phone with police, she surrendered peacefully without any further incident.
Borgeman was booked into the county jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a felony.
Police said that Borgeman and the victim were described as “close friends who knew each other well. The investigation into what happened in the days and hours leading up to this morning’s incident is ongoing.”
