OXFORD, Ontario — Southwestern Ontario Student Transportation Services (STS) has mailed out color-coded tags to students to wear on their backpacks. The tags identify students who transfer buses or carry Epi-Pens for allergic reactions, the London Free Press reports.

The transportation consortium has also sent instructional posters to each school in the district and all its school bus operators. The posters illustrate what the tags look like and what each color means.

School officials were looking for a way to improve safety and increase the visibility of students who need special attention.

The consortium formed two years ago and manages school bus routes for both the public and Catholic district school boards.
