ROUND ROCK, Texas — Round Rock Independent School District (RRISD) school bus driver Yolanda Sanchez was honored May 21 at the district’s Board of Trustees meeting as the 2009 PCAT Texas School Bus Driver of the Year.

The award is sponsored by the Property Casualty Alliance of Texas, through Edwards Risk Management and North American Solutions. Sanchez was also recognized for being the RRISD 2009 Bus Driver of the Year.

The driver of the year is awarded for his or her leadership, attitude, perseverance, student and parent relationships, and technical skill.

"The student transportation industry enjoys a stellar safety record, in large part because of the daily efforts of well-trained and caring school bus drivers. Ms. Sanchez is a leader and mentor, deeply concerned for the safety and welfare of her schoolchildren, and for her fellow bus drivers,” commented Aaron Ramsey of Edwards Risk Management.

“Round Rock ISD is fortunate to have Yolanda as a part of our family,” Superintendent Dr. Jesús Chávez said. “She demonstrates the passion and love for children that we hope all our employees exemplify on a daily basis.”
