CANTON, Ga. — Since the war in Iraq began, the staff of the Cherokee County School District transportation department has worn red polo shirts every Friday in support of U.S. troops.

Because of the numerous comments generated by the shirts, the department added an additional shirt to the staff wardrobe. School bus drivers and administrators now wear the color pink on the 11th of each month in honor of breast cancer awareness.

“It is our hope that by wearing these shirts we can raise cancer awareness, and self-examination and yearly mammograms or physicals will become commonplace,” Transportation Director Gene Thomason said. “The cure for cancer in our lifetime is a cause worth fighting for and we hope you will join us in raising cancer awareness.”
