BIRMINGHAM, England — Students of Aston University are now being offered a taste of school bus yellow.

The university launched a new distance-learning course on school transportation that will cover best practices and case studies from the U.S. and other countries.

The year-long certificate program was developed in association with STC, a consulting firm founded recently by school transportation expert Sian Thornthwaite.

The course will inform students on such school transportation related topics as safety, policies, procurement, sustainable strategies and special-education transportation.

The course will complement the degree-level transportation planning and management courses that were already available at Aston.

In Great Britain, about 1.5 million students ride buses to and from school each day.
