The school bus manufacturer’s corporate fan page on Facebook features information on Blue Bird’s history, news and events, as well as photos and videos. In addition to following Blue Bird on Twitter, customers and fans can text “follow @BlueBirdBuses” to 40404 to receive text message updates on their mobile phones.

Free transit bus passes offered to students for a month

Lane Transit District is providing the bus passes to students in grades 6 to 12 in September only following the loss of state funding for the Student Transit Pass Program. Beginning Oct. 1, students may pay cash to ride the buses, or buy a $24 monthly youth pass or a $65 three-month pass.

District sees route, driver benefits from cutting 30 bus stops

To offset its budget shortfall, Aurora (Neb.) Public Schools reduced its stops from 100 to 70, with drivers now making more group pickups as opposed to door-to-door stops. Transportation Director Gerad Olsen tells SBF that the department’s routes are more efficient and that the bus drivers are happier making fewer stops.

Transfinder solution achieves service record

Transfinder's Infofinder i enables parents to see their bus stop information on their district's website. At peak usage on Aug. 22, Infofinder i handled 235,952 address searches and 3,407 simultaneous requests per minute. This was a 30-percent and 42-percent increase over last year, respectively.
Collins Bus Corp. honored for pollution prevention efforts

The Type A school bus manufacturer receives the 2011 Pollution Prevention Award from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Collins has implemented programs to recycle wood pallets, cardboard and other waste material, and made changes to its water test quality assurance operation that reduced water use by over 400,000 gallons per year.

School system receives wheelchair lift-equipped hybrid buses

Rockland Board of Cooperative Educational Services in West Nyack, N.Y., put into service the two vehicles from Collins Bus Corp. last week. The buses were purchased through a New York State Energy Research and Development Authority award funded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Clean Cities program.
District Targets Efficiency With New Routing System

Chicago Public Schools’ Bureau of Student Transportation Services is developing a request for proposal to upgrade the system. Officials say that the system’s components will be integrated in four phases, with the end product incorporating all of the bureau’s business and routing functions, as well as GPS capabilities.

Cleaire Advanced Emission Controls is a provider of particulate matter and nitrogen oxide abatement products for on-road and off-road heavy-duty, diesel-powered vehicles. Officials say that in light of growing demand for mobile-source diesel particulate filters, NewWorld’s investment will enable Cleaire to expand its sales and product support capability in domestic and international markets.
