Officials say the state Legislature designated the first Monday in May as School Bus Driver Appreciation Day to “increase public recognition of the important function that school bus drivers serve in safely transporting children to and from school.”
Hawaii takes on transportation budget shortfall

State lawmakers set aside 38% less than the requested $42 million for school transportation for the upcoming school year. The state Board of Education Finance and Infrastructure Committee meets to discuss options to address the shortfall, including reducing bus service.
