HIGH POINT, N.C. — Thomas Built Buses founder Perley A. Thomas will be among the first wave of inductees into the North Carolina Transportation Hall of Fame this fall.

The ceremony will take place on Nov. 9 in High Point, the home of the bus manufacturing company.

According to the High Point Enterprise, seven other figures, including the Wright brothers, and three groups will also be honored for their contributions to transportation in the state.

Perley Thomas started his business in 1918. The company manufactured streetcars until 1936, when it began producing school buses.

Thomas died in 1958 at age 84. John Thomas Jr. and John Thomas III will represent the family at the event.
