CHASKA, Minn. — Public television program MotorWeek did a recent segment on a Minnesota school bus fleet that is transitioning to propane.

According to the MotorWeek Clean Cities Success Stories spot, Eastern Carver County Schools has started a "slow but steady process" of replacing more than 100 diesel school buses with propane-powered units.

The show's host, John Davis, reports that although the new propane buses cost more to purchase, they yielded fuel cost savings of $60,000 last year.

Eastern Carver County Schools' transportation coordinator, John Thomas, was interviewed for the show.

"I think we have a great fleet here that’s making progress for the environment, it’s saving money for the school district so we can keep the money in the classrooms, and we’re being a little progressive," Thomas says in the segment.

Eastern Carver County Schools partnered with Student Transportation of America and its local affiliate Positive Connections for the propane project.
