LAFAYETTE, Ind. — More than 30 people attended an alternative-fuel seminar organized by Tippecanoe School Corp. (TSC) officials last week to discuss solutions to increasing fuel costs and reduced education budgets.
Representatives from various companies spoke to attendees at TSC's central office about propane, electric and hybrid-electric vehicles and their use in school transportation fleets, the Journal & Courier reports.
TSC Transportation Director Kevin Neafie told the news source that he got the idea to explore alternative fuels from colleagues at school districts in Texas.
The seminar is a companion piece to a fuel pilot program that has already begun at TSC.
After it resolves warranty and permit issues, the district plans to convert two maintenance vehicles and a food service vehicle to run on propane. Moreover, in 2012, TSC will purchase an activity bus and a large school bus that will run on propane.
