SYRACUSE, N.Y. — School transportation consulting firm Safety Rules! has become a member of 1% For The Planet, a nonprofit organization with over 7,000 business partners dedicated to sustainable business practices and civic engagement on environmental issues.

As a 1% For The Planet member, Safety Rules! has committed to contribute 1 percent of its total income to the organization’s fund for local environmental initiatives.

The move was prompted by a presentation at the recent National Association for Pupil Transportation conference by Rick Ridgeway of outdoor clothing supplier Patagonia, whose founder co-created 1% For The Planet.

Safety Rules! President Ted Finlayson-Schueler said he believes that the contribution and membership will help broaden his organization’s understanding of what it means to safely transport students to and from school and school activities.

“Our hope is that our commitment to recognizing the importance of going about our business with an understanding of its impact on the environment will encourage others to do the same,” Finlayson-Schueler said. Safety Rules! is a nonprofit organization that focuses on writing, presentations and consultation for safe school travel, with primary expertise in school bus transportation.
