Last month, school bus contractor Durham School Services provided bus service for and employees also participated in the Lake Bluff Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics Illinois.
Durham’s facility in Lake Villa, Ill., operated eight shuttle buses on March 2 to bring the plungers to Sunrise Beach, and Durham employees raised $6,400 for the Special Olympics chapter.
There were 15 Durham employees among the 215 plungers at the lake.
“We do this at the end of every winter, and that water certainly isn’t getting any warmer,” said Kim Frost, who runs Durham’s Lake Villa facility and participates in the plunge. “It’s important that we support our communities and help make a difference with Special Olympics Illinois. Everyone had a great time.”
Operations Supervisor Kim Hesse of Durham’s Lake Villa facility added, “It gives you a good feeling to know that you’re part of an event that benefits a worthwhile organization. We’re happy to volunteer our services every year, and the people involved make it a fantastic experience.”
