Rolling V expands use of GreenRoad technology
The school bus company began using GreenRoad’s driver performance service in 2009 and is increasing its use in the fleet based on positive results it has had, officials say. With the service, algorithms monitor driver performance along five key maneuver categories, and if a risky or inefficient event occurs, the driver is given immediate feedback with red, yellow or green LED cues.
School bus company Rolling V Transportation Services is expanding GreenRoad’s driver performance service in its fleet based on positive results the solution has had.
Rolling V is based in South Fallsburg, N.Y., and provides school bus transportation to more than 7,000 students throughout the upper region of the state. The company adopted GreenRoad’s solution in 2009 as part of its commitment to operating a safe and efficient fleet, officials said.
“We’re always looking for ways to nurture Rolling V’s safety culture, while at the same time driving down costs,” said Phil Vallone, president of the company. “GreenRoad helps our drivers become the best drivers on the road. We have minimal safety incidents to begin with, and even fewer with GreenRoad. Even better, it reduces cost per mile as much as 5%.”
GreenRoad’s service uses mobile and cloud technology to help drivers self-improve. It includes the Driver Improvement Loop, which delivers advanced in-vehicle technology and change management best practices.
In addition, Rolling V uses GreenRoad as a positive driver development program and enhances it with a gift card incentive program. Monthly gift cards are awarded to drivers with the most improved and reliable GreenRoad Safety Score.
The GreenRoad Safety Score is based on measurements from GreenRoad’s in-vehicle technology. Patented algorithms monitor driver performance along five key maneuver categories: speed, lane handling, corner handling, braking and acceleration. If a risky or inefficient event occurs, the driver is given immediate feedback with red, yellow or green LED cues.
The events are tabulated into a safety score, which is the average number of events in 10 hours of driving. Drivers strive to reach the lowest safety score, officials said.
