NORTH CHICAGO, Ill. — Federal prosecutors said Thursday that a former board member and transportation director for a local school district took in at least $800,000 in kickbacks over 10 years from school bus contractors.

As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, prosecutors unveiled a 26-count indictment against the two ex-school officials from North Chicago Community Unit School District 187 and against three officials from bus companies that were awarded contracts with the districts.

The indictment reportedly seeks the forfeiture of close to $10 million, 48 buses and vans, and seven personal automobiles.

This story makes me wonder about how many other school board members and transportation directors were influenced by kickbacks before they fired all their bus drivers and hired a "for profit" bus company to replace them?
