CINCINNATI — First Student Inc. has acquired Star Shuttle Co., a provider of school and charter transportation services in East Orange, N.J.
First Student began operating the company’s approximately 70 buses under the Star Shuttle name on Oct. 30. Star Shuttle transportation contracts have been transferred to First Student and all 140 employees who passed stringent background checks were offered employment with the company.
“Since 1996, Star Shuttle has provided safe and efficient transportation for students as well as the community through its charter services. We are proud to be affiliated with an organization that echoes First Student’s commitment to each child’s safety and security,” said Mike Ruth, First Student’s vice president of strategic development. “Working with Star Shuttle leadership, including Manager Dee Williams, during this transition has been a pleasure, and we look forward to continuing to provide excellent service to Star Shuttle’s customers.”
“We spoke with several companies during the process, but in the end we just felt most comfortable moving forward with First Student,” added Star Shuttle Owner Nick Olivieri. “Their excellent industry reputation gave comfort to the employees and customers, which allowed for as smooth a transition as possible.”
As part of the transition, the experienced drivers will participate in 25 hours of First Student classroom and behind-the-wheel training, which includes education on such topics as student behavior management and bus safety.
