The contractor began serving Berkeley School District 87 on July 1. Under the three-year agreement, First Student is providing the district with 17 buses, each of which is equipped with a child-check reminder system, a crossing gate and a GPS system.

Under a three-year agreement that will begin on Aug. 1, the company will serve a Minnesota school district, providing transportation services for special-needs students and a total of 27 new buses. Krapf awards a total of $23,000 to 20 graduating high schoolers from the districts it serves. The company has been giving out scholarships since 1985.
NSTA Convention to Cover Current Industry Issues

Activities will focus on bus security and the stranded-pupil problem. NSTA is also stepping up its efforts to recognize contestants in the School Bus Driver International Safety Competition.

Sixty-five of the contractor’s employees have served their communities for 40 years or more. In other news, First Student parent company FirstGroup America is raising awareness for National Safety Month by reminding motorists to turn off mobile devices while driving.
First Student wins Ohio, Michigan contracts

Under a three-year agreement, the contractor will serve Columbus City Schools beginning July 1, operating more than 270 of the district’s routes. The company’s three-year contract with Oak Park Schools will begin with the 2010-11 school year. It will provide regular and special-education busing for students.

Michigan bill would outsource non-instructional labor

School bus contracting veteran to retire

Barry Stock has been a fixture in the pupil transportation community since he launched Stock School Transport in 1988. He recently served as president of NSTA and was named SBF’s Contractor of the Year in ’97. He describes his career as “exhilarating and rewarding.”
