BATON ROUGE, La. — Stainless steel producer American Utility Metals has changed its name to Crompion International LLC.

Officials said the name change and rebranding come as the company works to expand its global presence and its focus on creating solutions through new services and additional metallurgists on staff.

In November, Crompion International announced a multi-million dollar contract, one of the company’s largest yet, to fabricate stainless steel products for a leading manufacturer in the transportation industry.

“We’re taking a page from industries, where certain companies have broken away from the pack and into premium positioning,” said George Schaffer, president of Crompion International. “Our value-add approach, as opposed to strictly a supply approach, ensures a solution to a customer need rather than simply a sale.”

Since 2000, the company has supplied and distributed Cromgard, a high-performance, low-nickel stainless steel, to a range of customers in a range of industries, including bus manufacturing.
